Fil-Nor GAIN Organizers Receive Appreciation Award from DOLE
The Norwegian Maritime Unions, namely, the Norwegian Seafarers’ Union (NSU), Norwegian Maritime Officers’ Association (NMOA) and Norwegian Union of Maritime Engineers (NUME) received an award from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), during an Appreciation Ceremony held on June 22, 2016 at the Manila Hotel in recognition of the maritime industry’s invaluable support to the government in the generation of employment and promotion of decent jobs in seafaring.
The award was received by their representative, Ms. Ilyn D. Lachenal, Administrative Officer of the Joint Filipino-Norwegian Maritime Unions General Assistance and Information Office, Inc. (Fil-Nor GAIN, Inc.), which is the service office of the Norwegian Maritime Unions in Manila for Filipino seafarers serving Norwegian-owned/-controlled vessels covered by the NIS or Model Agreements. The Norwegian Maritime Unions were among the recipients coming from various maritime unions. The Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) was first among the recipients of the award from the seafarers’ unions, represented by its President, Dr. Conrado F. Oca.
Honorable Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, Secretary of DOLE, delivered the welcome remarks highlighting the achievements and works done by the agency together with POEA, represented by its Administrator, Atty. Hans Leo Cacdac, to the maritime industry during her term of six (6) years with DOLE. She also thanked the maritime stakeholders and social partners for its continuous support in securing the employment and welfare of the Filipino seafarers. Among those who gave messages reciprocating the message of thanks of Sec. Baldoz came from Dr. Conrado F. Oca and Mr. Eduardo Manese, Chairman of Magsaysay Group of Companies and the Joint Manning Group (JMG).
