Seafarers to get wage hike in NIS and Model Agreements in 2012
The Norwegian Seafarers’ Association, Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), Norwegian Maritime Officers Association (NMOA), Norwegian Seafarers’ Union (NSU) and the Norwegian Union of Marine Engineers(NUME) have reached an agreement regarding the wage hike of seafarers serving NIS vessels and Non-Norwegian vessels.
The wage hike was finalized during a meeting in Manila, Philippines last November 22, 2011 where all parties agreed to a two percent (2%) increase in the basic wage beginning 1st January 2012 for Philippine officers and ratings serving on NIS vessels and for Philippine officers and ratings serving on board Non-Norwegian vessels.
The parties also concluded the wage regulation for the period 1st January 2012 to 31st December 2013 in both NIS and MODEL Agreements.
Aside from this, the parties also agreed during the negotiations to establish a joint working group to discuss and propose amendments to the NIS and Model agreements regarding various issues on pre-medical examination, voluntary arbitration and disability compensation.
