3rd FIL-NOR MARITIME CONFERENCE
Celebrating 60 Years of Bilateral Relations Between the Philippines and Norway
The 3rd Fil-Nor Maritime Conference was held on October 14th at the AMOSUP Convention Hall in Intramuros, Manila. The event, attended by almost 150 guests and participants, was hosted and sponsored by Philippine and Norwegian Maritime Workers’ organizations and in association with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Manila, took place in celebration of 60 years of bilateral ties between the Philippines and Norway, with formal diplomatic relations having been established in the year 1948.
The conference focused on the close and multi-faceted cooperation in the maritime sector, which serves as the strongest link between the two countries, that has developed into a true partnership and friendship.
The one-day event’s welcoming remarks were delivered by Norway’s Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Ståle T. Risa, and President of AMOSUP, Capt. Gregorio S. Oca. The conference’s special message were delivered by State Secretary Øyvind Slåke of the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry and Philippine Department of Labor and Employment Secretary, Marianito D. Roque presenting not only the cooperation within the maritime industry, but in other promising areas of collaboration between the Philippines and Norway as well.Guest speakers Dr. Andreas K.L. Ugland, Undersecretary for Maritime Transport (DOTC) Elena H. Bautista, Chairman of Filipino Shipowners’ Association, Carlos C. Salinas, Deputy Managing Director of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, Jørgen Vatne, Managing Director of the Norwegian Maritime Officers’ Association, Capt. Hans Sande presented a complete view on the various aspects of the maritime industry showcasing the history of maritime relations, current and future challenges in the industry, and the importance of the two countries’ maritime relations. First Secretary of the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Siri Maria Midré gave a talk emphasizing on the present and prospective cooperation between the Philippines and Norway.
The conference culminated with a dinner party for all guests and participants who enjoyed the night’s celebration.
